Apple Watch 10 is here, but an affordable Apple Watch SE is also coming soon

At the Glowtime event on September 9, along with the new iPhone 16 series, Apple also unveiled the new Watch Series 10. The new Apple Watch is now bigger, it has a brighter display, its built is thinner, and it’s lighter. The Watch 10 is priced starting Rs 46,900 in India. The pricing of the smartwatch is consistent with the prices last year. However, if you have been looking for an Apple Watch that is more affordable, then this article is for you.
Before the Glowtime event last week, there were a lot of rumours about an affordable Apple Watch SE that could be launched at the event. But Apple ended up only launching the new Watch Series 10, and some minor updates were added to the existing Watch Ultra 2. There was nothing about the Watch SE at the event. This may have disheartened people who were expecting the affordable model to be announced. However, the good news is that the new Apple Watch SE has not been cancelled. It is reportedly still in the works and will be launched soon.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman revealed in his latest newsletter that the more affordable Apple Watch SE is, in fact, coming soon.
The rumoured Apple Watch SE is expected to sport a plastic build, which will reportedly make it even more affordable than the current 2022 Apple Watch SE model. The current Apple Watch SE model is priced starting at Rs 24,900 in India.
At this point, it is unclear whether the plastic body is a build option that Apple is adding to the new Watch SE, or if the new Apple Watch SE will be entirely shifted to a plastic design, with the metal build being done away with. But from what Gurman suggests, the plastic model of the new Watch SE will sport “bold colours”. Think: The colourful “C” series that Apple launched for iPhones back in 2013.
In the newsletter, Gurman also suggests that the target audience for the new and colourful Apple Watch SE could be the younger audience, especially school-going students. This does make sense because Apple recently also announced the Apple Watch For Kids feature that allows children to use an Apple Watch for communicating with their parents and friends without needing an iPhone.
Reportedly, the new Watch SE will also see some big upgrades in terms of processor. The new plastic Apple Watch is expected to be released some time in 2025.
